The file dinput8.dll is a core Microsoft Windows system file associated with DirectInput 8, a component of DirectX that handles input from game controllers, joysticks, and other input devices.

In addition to its legitimate system function, dinput8.dll is commonly used by the PC gaming community as a "wrapper" or "injector" file to enable game modifications (mods). This is because the game's executable can be tricked into loading a custom version of the DLL, which then loads the mod's code.

Common Issues and Uses
Missing file errors: If the original system file is missing or corrupted, programs may display an error. This can often be resolved by running a System File Checker (SFC) scan in Command Prompt to repair system files.

Modding: When modding games (like GTA V, Dark Souls, or Red Dead Redemption 2), a custom dinput8.dll is placed in the game's installation directory, next to the main executable.

Antivirus flags: Antivirus programs may sometimes flag the custom modding DLLs as potential threats (like Trojans or self-injecting code) because of how they function. These are often false positives in the context of trusted game mods, but users should exercise caution and only download such files from trusted sources like PCGamingWiki or GitHub.

Anti-cheat interference: Anti-cheat systems like BattlEye often block custom dinput8.dll files, preventing the game from launching if mods are installed. In such cases, users may need to disable anti-cheat (if possible for single-player) or use specific workarounds provided by the modding community.

There was topic on ut99.org about this situation, as Buggie explained there:
Stop use DirectInput for mouse. Use RawInput.
It is well-known bug of ACE and will be fixed in next release of ACE.
