If there is any doubt about Monster Gaming Server, it does not seem to be able to be restarted, not really for a DDoS attack but because it has been updated to the officially UNPUBLISHED version v469 and has nothing in common with the XC_Engine extension which is a main engine helper tool for this server. As result, the server has been thrown out of service and it will not (and cannot be) restart until the original files will be restored back at v451 or when XC_Engine will have an extension (really ?) compatible with what has been installed so far. "Thanks" and "respect" for the brilliant idea of destroying the work I've been doing for months. Now I'm truly no longer interested in making plugins for NavAdder.

@Heston: If they won't rollback server you can close this deal because I do not have any XC dependent assets replacement or any XC extension available for v469.
I was able to run certain TRASH maps because of XC_Engine not because those maps were good, and now they say that server was not updated... and I can clearly see that files are V469 files. Good luck, then.

Are you saying that nfoservers has installed v469. That is BS. That patch should not be available to them yet.

Edit: Just move the monster gaming server to the VDS. I need to figure out wtf is going on.

I'm not interested in writing stories, I simply could see server OFF, I tried to start it. Failed. Then I was looking at files in System folder - LOL.
Then I had questions: Why are changed to other files dated June 1 2020 and why do they match v469 and even is written somewhere in repositories about whatever 469.

First time some tech guy said that files are not changed and other one stated on this - I was feeling like an a$$, I saw with my own eyes what was loaded there, after telling him/them that if we don't know if we will try to do anything because this way doesn't work - server has devs directly linked with XC_Engine, he/they suddenly have remembered some changes to system files/repositories used for restoring server which usually takes place after some DDoS, initiated by an automated script. DDoS-ing this server was happening a lot of times (I have a bunch of e-mails) and every time went back correctly and shortly. Right now this attitude is confusing: We did not do anything and then, we changed default install files and recommending an UnManaged VDS. Why changing something which was perfectly operational ? Why not changing files ONLY for those requesting this ?
So I wasn't bullshitting, as usual...

Back ON-Line using v451b.

What was the deal here ?...
M.G.S. uses XC_Engine. Mods installed there are using this XC_Engine. XC_Engine it's not supporting newer 469 because... this was changed (more changes... even not requested changes).
Why XC_Engine ? Because some maps might have a game but they are UT trashes in the right way of saying. Patch plugins and XC_Engine can operate a map patching(/hacking in true terms) making it playable and even stopping any error. When XC_Engine will be dropped away, definitely those maps must be removed too because they aren't great at all...:
- rammed movers;
- dark spots;
- free access spots making monsters to escape from hunt;
- various spam types -including for DevPath;
- maps having no navigation chain and ghosting monsters;
- maps having lousy actors - n00b type Editor testing not exactly mapping;
- ect.
Only XC_Engine can do some wrapping here, screwing reachSpecs it's not a common tweak. To summarize, without XC_Engine I won't use any UT v469 because I do not have any plans for removing maps from server - maybe adding more maps...

Bad News and Good News

#1 Bad News
Several files have been restored back to version 451b. When I'm saying several it's because some of these were still having 469 origins. What was the problem ?
Some map using a texture from Editor.U file triggered this to be loaded at once with its DLL accordingly - an incorrect DLL file after all. Here some class called in dependencies could not be loaded, as result said map did not run - good to know. Editor.u it's not really a mapping resource, it's for Editor's interface. I'm not sure if such a map it's really helpful in a Linux server whatever - I might be wrong here... After a few attempts to load map I went to see what's going on, why MapVote did not switch server correctly - log was "nice":

Code: Select all

Warning: Failed to load 'Editor': Can't find Class in file 'Class Editor.TransBuffer'
Warning: Failed to load 'MH-.....................unr': Can't find Class in file 'Class Editor.TransBuffer'
Warning: Failed to load 'Level None.MyLevel': Can't find Class in file 'Class Editor.TransBuffer'
#2 Good News - Using some of my operating knowledge I caused a destruction of this original System Folder with connected DLL and EXE files and linked at policies protecting them, and I set a fresh folder only with needed assets for starting server, U files being elsewhere. There was even a new file UnrealTournament.exe which... it's useless as long as server won't use it in any way.

It seems that there are people who are bothered by the fact that the game action in this server runs without major problems. Exactly, with sorted or repaired maps, with mutators worked more carefully and with modules that solve problems in run-time.
In recent days, HOF services have been assaulted with DDoS attacks that have been repulsed. If it's a problem like that, then I think it's time to make a few more updates, that is, to add more repaired maps while we wait for their creators to come up with their own repaired versions, I kind of doubt something like that will happen. Then, we can have even more adjusted maps using newer editing methods.

2021 - Bumping - Changes and adds
Several maps have been cleaned, navigation simplified. There is now in testing stage a small tool showing something for map - title or file-name. This was under discussions for figuring what map was running, if player wants to vote it again. With title or without title and without digging in log, at end of match mod will broadcast a message with map's file name. Maps without a defined title are automatically titled based on map-name in both server and client - client actually will edit title itself if title = "Untitled". This way player will have a clue which file must be voted. For others using another language and their "Untitled" sounds different, nothing is changed in Scoreboards - this is an English based server not multi-language server. There I could do some replication for altering this stuff in all clients based on server's task but... I don't like to over-load network for lousy things...

Note: You have all rights to play a map 100 times if you like it. Mapper should be proud about his/her work...

I've been looking over MGS repositories for a while.
An older move was renaming some stock maps unused or bugged for preventing from being cycled/loaded for votes...

In February 25 something recovered those junks and... they are back. Okay... it's time to dodge from "recommended stock" to another place where are going maps more or less closer to XXI century as quality and no longer bothering with low quality wrecks. There are better replacements for Deck16][, November with duplicated actors and trashed defenses and so on. Assault it's not a goal and so AS maps are spam files for sorting. It will be done a bit of housekeeping... adjusting repositories.
