Newer HI-Res Textures

Post by Nelsona »

Ladies in gentlemen, I have to inform you that some nice guy has reworked a few stock textures from Unreal and UT to higher resolutions. I don't know if are those S3TC textures but definitely things do look different. Some SkyBox which I did in some map and was messed up with S3TC by DieHard, right now are fine, it's a real sky.
I have to do more testing trying those 2048×2048.
In mean time you can drop an eye there:

It is advisable to make a backup copy of default used ones before overwriting stock with these... just in case.

File SkyBox.utx do seems WRONG. For using these textures it's needed restoring this file with the one from original stock.
Else some maps will deliver a crash

Not only DieHard failed HiRes mission toward re-"texturing"... :tease:
I'll check more and errors are going to be here if any would be found.

Just wow, if that is the HiRes Textures in action that's impresive, sadly i will stick to my cartoonist textures for my maps

I hope this is the push UT99 needs like Unreal Gold had too

Honestly I respect idea for improving game at a high Level, the problem comes that testers seem to be missing, rushing, etc. This is not the way of doing.
Last time S3TC made me to go mad. There are enough maps looking normal and S3TC makes them to look like a sort of mad n00b work. Is not about these textures but here is about INTEGRITY + missing ones causing another strange image: that spot do looks awesome in Hi Res, while other nearby one is... original causing differences in the same maps. I'd rather prefer ALL Hi Res or ALL defaulted not such a funky combination.

Also I played Deck16][ - I don't see to much HD - exactly like predecessor S3TC.

I played in my private testing server an old map a bit edited (only paths and items specific tweaks are done) and I have encountered a serious performance lost - very low FPS. I'm not gonna waste time to see what is about. Stock textures are running just fine - I'm done with this texturing spree, thanks for reading.
